In which N.J. cities do drivers have the cheapest car insurance rates?
The cities in New Jersey with the cheapest auto insurance rates typically have lower crime rates and are located away from New York and Philadelphia, according to a report from ValuePenguin.com .
Hillsborough in Somerset County has the lowest annual insurance premiums in New Jersey with an average rate of $1,364, the report found.
ValuePenguin.com. a consumer finance website, looked at rates from 50 insurance companies in 30 of the largest cities in New Jersey.
The second cheapest place for auto insurance is Bridgewater, also in Somerset County. Drivers in Bridgewater have an average annual premium of $1,385, the report said.
Two Jersey shore areas, Toms River and Long Branch, both boast average insurance rates 19 percent below the state average, according to the report. The overall average cost in New Jersey is $1,982.
Although it’s located about 9 miles east of Philadelphia, Cherry Hill has an annual average rate of $1,624, 18 percent below the state average.
Cities included in this study have a population greater than 30,000. Actual insurance rates depend on various factors including driving history, annual mileage and driving history, among others, the report said.
