Not really, the savings on gas alone is worth more than the membership in as little as a few months. Anywhere from 7-10 cents per litre cheaper Not to mention the greatest return policy around, amazing quality of meats and great prices.

Plus I have a business and get a rebate check for $600+ each year and get products there cheaper than I can thru a distributer/wholesaler

We have the executive membership which gives back 2%. It’s pretty easy for our family to spend $5500 / year at Costco. I just wish they still took Amex.

Costco has great meats and generally good prices. but it’s the unique products specific to Costco that really sell it for us. There are things at Costco that are made specifically for them and can be really difficult to find elsewhere.

It’s true that Costco will entice you to buy a membership. Just tell them you are from another country especially if you are paying excess amounts over the gift card value with cash.

They can’t force you to buy a membership, because they are legally bound to honour what they advertise at time of purchase. Last time I checked (this very afternoon) the card that your relative brings to the cashier to scan for a gift card states “you don’t have to be a member to use the card”.

Get your relative to send you a photo of the terms and conditions on the purchase card or take a picture yourself (to show the cashier) when in the store.

How can you lie you are from another country when you need to provide local government ID to get a day pass — no ID, no allowance to purchase anything.

Also, those “sale prices” in the “flyer” are “member only” and require active membership to “activate”.

It is cash only for non members. No plastic (CC or debit). Lady shopping with a friend caused a huge line up causing a scene when cashier refused to accept her debit card to pay for her $300+ purchase. Like anyone carries around that much cash having not experienced this insanity prior. Eventually her friend with the membership put it on her debit card and told her friend she could repay her.

I bet that left a good first-time experience with her

Note that any sales discounts, you won’t get it if you’re not a membership, so you all pay full price.

Boy, are you really that cheap not to afford 55$? If you don’t want to spend or pay a membership, go with a friend who has one.

Membership fees are a large factor but not the sole factor:
